Splitsville at Earlham

RICHMOND, IN – The Wilmington College volleyball team split their two matches Saturday at the Earlham Invitational, beating Findlandia in straight sets and falling to Franklin in four.

Senior Sara Fisher (London, OH/Madison Plains) did a lot of the damage in the opener as the Fightin' Quakers defeated Findlandia, 25-6, 25-18, 25-6. The 6-foot middle hitter finished the game with a team high 11 kills to go along with eight blocks. Sophomore Natalie Sparks (West Jefferson, OH/West Jefferson) recorded six kills with seven digs.

Freshman Ariana Neff (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast), in her first extended action, had a career-high 16 assists, and sophomore Madi Ray (Loveland, OH/Loveland) had a team-high 10 digs.

Just four days after picking up its first victory against Franklin, Wilmington was on the short end of a four-set match Saturday – losing to the Grizzlies, 24-26, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21.

Sophomore Ashley Miller (Arcanum, OH/Frankin Monroe) was two kills shy of a triple-double with 20 assists, 14 digs and eight kills. Senior Anne Keenan (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) led the team with nine kills and 14 digs.

Ray recorded 24 digs, while Neff registered 13 assists.

Wilmington (2-5) will compete in the second day of the Earlham Invitational Sunday.
