Quakers swarmed by Yellow Jackets

Box Score

Despite the blue sky, sunshine and unseasonably mild conditions, Saturday proved to be a forgettable day for the Wilmington College Quakers, who were swarmed, 75-0, by the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets at Williams Stadium.

Wilmington is now 0-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, 0-7 overall. Baldwin-Wallace improves to 5-1 in the conference, 6-1 for the season.

Baldwin-Wallace scored in virtually every manner possible, except via fumble or blocked kick return. The Jackets scored four rushing touchdowns, passed for four scores, ran back an interception for a score, and scored on punt and kickoff returns.

"I thought we put in a good week of practice and were ready to play, but we just got beat in every way possible today," Wilmington head coach Ken Minor said. "I know that our kids will come back next week ready to work hard in practice and play hard against Heidelberg."

Wilmington's offense sputtered and could not capitalize on what red zone opportunities it was able to generate. The Quakers fumbled the ball away at the BW 17-yard line in the second quarter and turned the ball over on downs at the Yellow Jackets' 7-yard line in the third quarter.

Linebacker Matt McFadden (Sabina/East Clinton) and safety Jamar Roberts (Springfield) led the Quakers' defense with 14 tackles apiece. Roberts had a sack and two tackles for loss while McFadden had one stop that resulted in a BW loss.

Brandon Arehart (Wilmington) passed for 116 yards with Daryl Howard (Springfield/Shawnee) pulling in career-high four receptions. Malcolm Heard II (Wilmington) had two catches for 47 yards.

The loss is Wilmington's most lopsided setback in the modern era, but not team history. The 1914 Quakers lost to Kentucky, 86-0.

The Quakers will travel to Tiffin to face Heidelberg on Oct. 29. The Student Princes defeated Marietta, 42-20, Saturday.
