WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues non-conference action with a Wednesday evening match at Bluffton University. First serve is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
The Teams: Wilmington and Bluffton. The Fightin' Quakers are 3-14 on the season after splitting a pair of matches at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College on Saturday. The Beavers post a record of 3-15 having played nearly half of their matches against nationally-ranked teams. Bluffton most recently defeated Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member Marietta College in four sets on Saturday.
The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his first season leading the program in 2019. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Steve Yarnell, who has led Bluffton to multiple NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, is in his 13th season as head coach.
The Players: The Wilmington duo of Jillian Wesco and Taylor McCuistion continue to lead the Quakers offensively as both average nearly two kills per set and have accounted for over 54 percent of the team's kills. Both have also tallied over 150 digs per set in addition to their offensive numbers. Setter Summer Wilbur dishes out over five assists per set. Libero Karley Schlensker is second in the OAC in digs per set at 5.43. Remi Brower is Bluffton's top offensive target with 206 kills. Sarah Heydinger joins Bower in averaging over 2.40 kills per set.
