WILMINGTON, Ohio - Macki Leon, a senior on the Wilmington College women's swimming team, is the College's Female Clyde Lamb Award winner for the 2020-21 academic year.
Macki Leon hails from Ashland, Ohio, and is a graduate of Ashland High School. A four-year member of the program, Leon made an impact with the women's swimming program the second she stepped foot in the WC Natatorium. Simply put, Macki is one of the most decorated individuals in program history as she as accumulated more points in events for Wilmington College than any other swimmer, regardless of gender.
Leon is a five-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) selection. She tallied top-three finishes in the 200-yard backstroke each of the last two seasons while also finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke and runner-up in the 200-yard IM at the 2021 OAC Championships held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, earlier this year. Leon's final All-OAC honoree came as part of the Quakers' 800-yard freestyle relay squad.
Even in an odd season, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Leon was able to swim life-time best performances on all flat-start events at the 2021 OAC Championships. Four of those swims were program bests as Macki's name currently appears in the program's record books in eight events - five individual and three relays.
Outside of the pool, Macki has been very involved in the Wilmington community. She's the co-founder and Vice President of the Native American Student Association as well as serving the Wellness Committee as its Vice President. Leon's involvement in Quaker Wellness doesn't stop with the committee, however. Macki has worked in the Quaker Recreation Center as well as serving as a cycling instructor.
A chemistry major with a 3.18 grade point average, Leon has also helped other WC students as a supplemental instructor leader in general chemistry. Congratulations, Macki – Wilmington College's Female Clyde Lamb Award winner for the 2020-21 academic year!
