Josh Cyrus enters his third season as an Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Wilmington College for the 2025-26 academic year.
The 2024-2025 season in cross country saw Cyrus assist Head Coach Ron Combs as the team fielded two OAC individual champions, a regional individual champion, three all-region athletes, and an individual national champion. Indoor track saw improvements in the sprints at the conference meet, scoring more points as a group along with the women’s DMR, which broke the school record, and finished runner-up in the conference. Assisted with distance as they added two more national titles in the 3,000 Meter and 5,000 Meter runs. Outdoors saw two more school records get taken down, in the women’s 4x800m and the women’s 400 meter hurdles. The sprints group added three more All-OAC relays with 2nd in the women’s 4x400m, 2nd in the men’s 4x100m, and 3rd in the men’s 4x400m, along with All-OAC honors in the men’s 100m, and women’s 400 meter hurdles, resulting in one of the larger point performances in recent years for the group.
The 2023-2024 season saw Cyrus assisting during the cross-country season that saw two All-Region, an OAC champion, a regional champion and an All-American. Cyrus’s sprints in track saw three program records taken down along with an All-OAC honor for Haley Cook in the Women’s 400m and an All-American performance in the High Jump for Brady Vilvens at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Continuing to assist the distance side, Cyrus aided in three All-Americans and another National Champion performance with Faith Duncan’s win in the Women’s 5,000m run at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
During 2022-23, he assisted Head Coach Ron Combs in one of the best men's years in program history. The men's cross country team won the 24-team JennaStrong Fall Classic, took third at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships and sixth at the 42-team NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Meet. The Quakers narrowly missed qualification for the NCAA Division III Championships, but sent three individuals to run in the final meet. There, Simon Heys took home his second All-American honor.
In track & field, Cyrus aided distance participant Simon Heys to multiple All-OAC honors as well as an All-American performance and new school record in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He also assisted high jumper Brady Vilvens during a season that saw him crowned as Co-National Champion at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Cyrus was a four-year member of both the cross country and track & field programs as a middle-distance runner. Cyrus was named as the first team captain since 1996 and the 2022 Wilmington College alumnus was a three-time Academic All-OAC selection and earned All-OAC honors at the 2020 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
