WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a four-game series against Muskingum University this weekend. The Fightin' Quakers will head to New Concord for two games on Friday and host the Fighting Muskies for a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Quakers stand at an even 8-8 on the season and are 7-5 in conference play after splitting a series with Marietta College last weekend. The Muskies are 10-6 overall and 9-3 in OAC play after taking all four games for Capital University.
The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 14th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Kari Winters, a 2008 graduate of Muskingum, is in her 11th season coaching her alma mater.
The Hitters: Two Wilmington freshmen – Arianna Layne and Lindsey Carter – lead the team in batting average over a .375clip with Layne leading the squad in home runs with five and RBIs with 19. Sophomore Lizz Hadley and senior Megan Crager both hit over a .333 clip with Hadley driving in 10 runs. Haley Hawk leads Muskingum's offense with a .465 batting average and 13 RBIs. Karsyn Shaffer and Francesca Stefano also hit over a .400 clip.
The Pitchers: Alexis Stringfellow, Lindsey Carter and Hayley Suchland have all pitched over 28 innings for Wilmington. Stringfellow has a team-best 2.29 earned run average while Suchland has 19 strikeouts. Hannah Smith and Hannah Duff has combined to pitch over 80 of Muskingum's 100 innings
