Men's Basketball Hosts No. 11 Marietta Saturday





WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's basketball team returns to Hermann Court to face Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Fightin' Quakers are 15-6 overall and 11-4 in conference play after escaping Muskingum University with an 84-82 win on Wednesday. The Pioneers are 18-4 overall and 12-3 in OAC competition after falling 78-66 at the University of Mount Union on Wednesday.

The Coaches: K.C. Hunt is in his 12th season as head coach of Wilmington's men's basketball program. Hunt, who has coached two All-Americans and seven of the school's 1,000-point scorers, led the Quakers to OAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2014. He garnered Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors for guiding Wilmington to OAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2010. Jon VanderWal is in his 11th season as Marietta's head men's basketball coach. The Pioneers have won over 200 games during his tenure.

The Players: A trio of Quakers – DaeShawn Jackson, Kevin Lewis and Will Patrick – all score in double figures including Jackson as the leader at 15.9 points per game. Lewis, the team's leader in rebounding at 5.4 boards per game, scores 14.1 points per game along with stealing two passes per contest, one of the top marks in the OAC in that category. Patrick contributes over a dozen points off the bench. Marietta also features a balanced scoring attack as Anthony Wallace, Kyle Dixon and Jason Ellis all average between 10-12 points per game. Dixon and Caleb Hoyng both grab over five rebounds per contest for the Pioneers.

NCAA Regional Rankings: Marietta (No. 1) and Wilmington (No. 8) both appeared in the first NCAA Great Lakes Regional rankings.

Recent History: Wilmington is 13-29 against Marietta since joining the OAC prior to the 2000-01 season. The Pioneers have won the last 11 meetings including an 86-69 victory on Dec. 15, 2018. More information on the series history can be viewed at the link above.
