(DANVILLE, Va.) -
Thane McCoy finishes in eighth in the NCAA Division III Region IV Championships in the 157-pound division for the Quakers in Danville, Virginia on Saturday, marking the second consecutive Quaker to earn a regional podium position.
McCoy lost his first match by a 17-7 major decision to Otterbein University's Luke Dolan, falling behind in the first period 9-2, getting taken down three times and escaping twice.
In the second period, McCoy gained the first nearfall, after starting in advantage, but Dolan escaped and took down McCoy for a 13-4 lead.
In the third period Dolan took down McCoy for the fifth time in the match and McCoy gained another escape, making it 16-5.
McCoy was the beneficiary of three stalling calls against Dolan, amounting to two penalty points in the closing 30 seconds, ending the match at 16-7.
Dolan earned a bonus point for advantage time to make the final score 17-7.
McCoy advanced to the seventh-place match against Joseph Olalde from Ferrum College, but elected to not contest the match, giving Olalde the forfeit and giving McCoy an eighth place finish and a podium spot at the regional.
