(BEREA, Ohio) – The Wilmington College wrestling team lost their three duals today in the Yellow Jacket Duals, hosted at Baldwin Wallace University.
They started their day with a 54-0 loss against Baldwin Wallace. Their closest match of the dual was at 125 pounds, where
Andre Lewis lost by decision to Chazz Tallarigo, 17-15. Lewis used four near fall points to take a 7-6 lead in the second period, before six points from his opponent put him in a 12-7 hole going into the final period. Lewis outscored Tallarigo 8-5 in the period, but it wasn't enough in the loss.
Sophomore
Thane McCoy picked up a 21-4 tech. fall win for the Quakers at 157 pounds in a 49-5 loss to UNC Pembroke in their second dual of the day. McCoy used a four point near fall and take down to gain an advantage in the first period, before dominating the second and third periods en route to his win.
The Quakers final dual was a 45-7 loss to Case Western Reserve. Both
Asher LeBeau at 149 pounds and McCoy at 157 pounds won their matches for Wilmington.
After trailing 9-5 after the first period, LeBeau didn't allow another point for the remainder of the match and came away with an impressive 21-9 major decision over Dillon O'Keefe.
McCoy and his opponent Thomas Wagner didn't score in the first period. The second saw the two battle to a 4-3 advantage for Wagner heading into the final period. Two big take downs for McCoy over the final two minutes secured a 9-6 decision win.
