Quakers Win First Two Duals of the Season Sunday in West Virginia

(WEST LIBERTY, W.Va.) – The Wilmington College wrestling team competed for the final time in 2025 today at the Hilltopper Duals, hosted at West Liberty University.

They finished the day 2-1 overall with wins over the Ohio Northern University B team and Jamestown Community College, before dropping their final dual of the day to the West Liberty University B team. These were the first dual wins of the season for the Quakers.

They won their first dual of the day over the Ohio Northern Polar Bears B team, 24-17. It started with an impressive 19-4 tech. fall win for freshman Cody Lisle before sophomore Gavyn Grim won by forfeit for an 11-0 lead. The Polar Bears fought back with a decision and tech. fall win over the following two bouts for an 11-8 dual heading into 157.

Thane McCoy rolled past Ethan Bartlett by way of 19-4 tech. fall for a little breathing room at 16-8. A Polar Bear decision at 165 made the score 16-11. Wilmington sealed the deal with wins at 174 and 184 pounds.

After leading 9-8 heading into the final period, sophomore Hunter Randall hung tough and dominated the last two minutes for a 14-9 decision at 174 before a Polar Bears forfeit at 184. A double forfeit followed at 197 before a Quakers forfeit at 285 ended the dual.

The Quakers rolled past Jamestown Community College in their second dual, 44-0. The Jayhawks forfeited three of the first four weight classes, while Zander Ward's first period takedown of Wyatt Bryman proved to be the difference in a 3-2 decision win.

The final three contested matches saw McCoy win by 17-2 tech. fall in 1:34, Randall pin his opponent in 4:17 and freshman Griffin Shepherd control his match with Joshua Kriger before pinning him at 2:43.

The Quakers lost to West Liberty's B team in their final dual, 28-17. Their three wins came from Grim, McCoy, and Shepherd.
