Quakers Compete in Three Duals at Olivet Saturday in Michigan

(OLIVET, Mich.) – The Wilmington College wrestling team competed Saturday at the Comet Duals, hosted by The University of Olivet, where they dropped three duals on the day.

Their first dual came against King's College, where they lost 43-4. Their lone win of the dual came from sophomore Thane McCoy at 157 pounds, who beat Martin Turi by way of 11-2 major decision. He took a 5-0 lead after the first period and never looked back in the win.

It was a close call for sophomore Darnell Johnson at heavyweight. He and Sam Moffet were tied at 1-1 early in the final period, but a Moffet takedown put the match out of reach as Johnson fell 4-2.

Against former Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member John Carroll University, the Quakers lost 42-10. Asher LeBeau beat Will Allen by fall in 1:30 at 149 pounds before McCoy followed this up with a win at 157. He cruised past Noah Ruibal by 19-1 tech. fall. After leading 3-0 after the first period, 16 second period points led to the victory. Quintez Pratt hung tough at 165 pounds against Drew Connelly but dropped a 5-1 decision.

The final dual of the day was against the host school Olivet Comets, where Wilmington lost 41-10. Freshman Cody Lisle earned the first win of his collegiate career to start things off at 125 pounds. In a high scoring first period, he led Jayden Barnes 8-4. Early in the second period at 3:20, Lisle pinned Barnes for the win.

McCoy moved to 12-0 on the season with a major decision win at 157 pounds, 12-1 over Darren McLeod. Two takedowns in the first period set the tone for McCoy in the victory. LeBeau tried to make a big comeback against Aden Baynes at 149 pounds, after trailing 9-2, but he ultimately fell by 9-7 decision.

The Quakers have some time off before traveling to Berea, Ohio to take on the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets in OAC dual action on Friday, December 5th at 4:00 P.M.
