(ANGOLA, Ind.) Ryder Pierce and
Cornell Johnson each place at the Trine Invitational in Angola, Ind. on Saturday. Pierce won by Medical Forfeit over Aidan Belgiorno from Heidelberg in the 197-pound fifth place match, while Johnson lost by no contest to Blake Flach from Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the 285-pound third place match.
Pierce advanced through the consolation bracket, losing in his opening championship round match, before losing again in the consolation semi to get to the fifth place match. The wrestler he lost the opening round patch, Austin George from Southwestern Michigan, defeated him by pinfall, Pierce scored a win the next time they faced in the Consolation Quarterfinals with a 12-7 decision win.
Johnson lost by major decision in his opening round match, but won five straight consolation matches to get to the third place match, scoring four of those wins by pinfall.
Thane McCoy was one of the few wrestlers to win a championship round match at the 157-pound class, winning by Technical Fall 15-0, before falling in the next two matches, both by decision, 23-18 and 4-1.
Farell Hall won a match at the 133-pound class.
Asher LeBeau won a match at the 149-pound class.
Quintez Pratt won a match at the 165-pound class.
Hunter Randall won at the 184-pound class.
The Quakers will return home for their opening Ohio Athletic Conference dual, welcoming Baldwin-Wallace on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Fred Raizk Arena. First match starts at 7:00.
