Box Score

Freshman Clara Blaine scored a career-high six goals as the Wilmington College women's lacrosse team won its first Ohio Athletic Conference game of the season, beating Heidelberg, 18-13, Friday on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams played with nine players as Heidelberg only dressed nine.
  • Blaine (Lebanon, OH/Lebanon) scored five of her six goals in the first half. The six goals are the second most for a single-game in school history. She added six ground balls and five caused turnovers in the victory.
  • Seven different players found the back of the net, six of them multiple times.
  • Heidelberg took the lead with a pair of goals in the first 90 seconds of the game before the Fightin' Quakers came storming back with four straight goals.
  • After the Student Princes pulled even at seven, Wilmington found the goal four straight times to end the first half. The Fightin' Quakers never trailed in the second half.
  • Junior Abby Englehart (Westerville, OH/North) was the primary defensive force leading the team with seven ground balls and six caused defensive turnovers. She added two goals on two shots.
  • Junior Becca Petra (Liberty Township, OH/Lakota East) finished with three goals, six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Freshmen Rachel Brown (Lebanon, OH/Lebanon), Rachel Reinhart (Hilliard, OH/Davidson) and Hannah Gratsch (Milford, OH/Milford) each scored twice.
  • Junior Megan Wieloch (Plymouth, MI/Plymouth) recorded six saves on 19 shots.\

HEAD COACH QUOTES

"We were solid off the draw today, and it made the difference," said head coach Bree Galloway. "It was great to have seven different players scored, six of which posting multiple goals. Defensively, we shut down their leading scorer – only allowing her to post three goals. We settled down, played smart and had fun playing the game we love."

WHAT'S NEXT

Wilmington (2-11 overall, 1-5 OAC) travels to Franciscan 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22 for a non-conference game.
