WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College women's swimming team won seven of the 11 events as they handed Franklin its first loss of the season, beating the Grizzlies Saturday, 137-68.
"I think we responded well to back-to-back meets," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "We still need to get better, but I am pleased with the way we swam."
Senior Julie Creech (Dayton, OH/Centerville) won three events, two individual and a relay. She swam the third leg of Wilmington's win on the 200 meter medley relay. The Lady Quakers won with a time of 2:13.90. Creech returned to the pool for the 800 meter freestyle, and swam away with the victory, winning by almost 20 seconds in a time of 10:15.42.
The senior wrapped her day with a victory in the 100 meter butterfly with the time of 1:11.26.
Sophomore Victoria Burcham (Urbana, OH/Urbana) swam the first leg of the 200 meter medley relay victory, then won the 100 meter backstroke in a time of 1:11.21.
Wilmington (3-1) returns to the pool 1 p.m. Saturday hosting a tri-meet with OAC foe Transylvania and Wittenberg.
