WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's swimming team conquered both Transylvania University and Wittenberg University in a double dual meet held at the Wilmington Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
The Fightin' Quakers defeated the Pioneers 130-118 and dispatched the Tigers 130-120. Transylvania defeated Wittenberg 136-102 in the other dual on the afternoon.
"Two great wins over Transylvania and Wittenberg for us this afternoon," Head Women's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said. "Going into the meet, we knew that there were races that we should win and had to win to be successful. We had some people that had do some extra things for us to find team success."
Wilmington's 200-meter freestyle relay team of Margaret Hover, Maryn Herring, Hannah Davis and Macki Leon won the event with a time of 2:00.05, beating the runner-up team from Transylvania by over four seconds. Leon also won the 100-meter backstroke (1:12.73) as well as runner-up finishes in both the 200-meter backstroke (2:39.64) and the 200-meter IM (2:41.68). Hover claimed the title in the 200-meter freestyle (2:24.38).
Rachel O'Donnell took third place in the 400-meter freestyle (5:33.53) and 800-meter freestyle (11:25.20) as well as taking fourth place in the 800-meter freestyle relay (2:13.40) with Ellyse Herr, Kadie Grundy and Kassidy Rogers.
"Rachel O'Donnell did an amazing job today swimming back-to-back the 800 and 200 freestyle," said Breen. "That is a tough double and is an outstanding example of senior leadership. She exceeded our expectations and those were some of the early points that started to put us in position to win the meet."
Wilmington returns to the pool next weekend with a home dual meet against Hiram College.
