Leon leads Fightin’ Quakers women’s swimming in double dual

LEXINGTON, Kentucky- The Wilmington College women's swimming team competed in a double dual meet against Transylvania University and Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon. The Fightin' Quakers fell to both teams, but were able to claim several event titles.

  • The first event title for the Fightin' Quakers came from freshman Macki Leon (Ashland, OH/Ashland) in the 200-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 2:05.81. Leon also claimed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time that was six seconds faster than her time two-weeks ago, 5:44.37.

  • Leon then joined forces with fellow freshmen Hannah Davis and Margaret Hover and senior Samantha Glish (Louisville, KY/Ballard) for a first-place 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet finished the eight laps in 1:47.17.

  • Glish also earned an individual first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.40. She was joined in the heat by Davis, who finished third, with a time of 27.79.

  • In the 100-yard freestyle, Glish earned second-place with a time of 59.30. Davis finished immediately behind, to earn third-place with a time of 1:00.21.

  • Freshman Kadie Grundy (Lafayette, IN/Harrison) demonstrated strength in the backstroke events this afternoon. She placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.42 and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:32.02.

  • Sophomore Alyssa Rogers (Springfield, OH/Kenton Ridge) earned third in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in with a time of 1:16.54.

  • "I thought we had good swims today, especially for our first long line up meet of the season. We still have some work to do on finishing races, but we have a 'sprint meet' coming up and hopefully that will help us work on that. I'm excited about our progress."

  • The Fightin' Quakers take on Ohio Northern at home at 7pm Friday and travel to Hiram on Saturday.
