Women's Soccer Travels to Capital on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer faces the final road test of it 2018 regular season on Wednesday as the Fightin' Quakers travel to Capital University for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Quakers are 8-7-0 overall and 2-5-0 in OAC play after falling to Baldwin Wallace University 1-0 on Saturday. The Crusaders are 11-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the OAC after falling to Ohio Northern University 1-0 on Saturday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 27th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Matt Ogden is in his fourth season as Capital's head women's soccer coach.

The Players: Wilmington has scored 22 goals this season from 11 different players. Alex Vestal leads the team with six goals and three assists, including two goals in the win over Muskingum last Wednesday, for 15 total points. Five other Quakers – Kaitlin Evans, Lakyn Hupp, Paige Lane, Taylor Leake and Madison Wiedeman – have all scored at least two goals. Defensively, Leda Moyer has given up 1.27 goals per game with five shutouts. Carlee Murry has scored six goals for the Crusaders while Sydney Dion and Jordan Fike have each netted four goals for Capital.

Scoreless Streak: Wilmington has not scored a goal in the last five games. Tiffany Hayes scored Wilmington's last goal in a 5-0 victory over Muskingum University on Oct. 3.

OAC Tournament Implications: The Quakers stand at 2-5-0 in the OAC with two games to play. Wilmington is in a three-way tie for sixth place with only the top six qualifying for the OAC Tournament next week.

Series History: Wilmington is an even 11-11-3 against Capital since the 1991 seasons. The Crusaders have won the last four meetings. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
