Women's Basketball Opens Season with 28th Annual Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament





WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team opens its 2019-20 campaign by hosting the 28th annual Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament at Hermann Court this weekend.

The Schedule: Wilmington will face Miami University-Middletown at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by Denison University and Anderson University at 8 p.m. Saturday will feature a consolation final at 1 p.m. followed by the 3 p.m. championship.

The Teams: Wilmington, Miami-Middletown, Denison and Anderson. The tournament marks the season opener for the Fightin' Quakers, who are looking to improve upon an 11-15 record last season. The Thunderhawks are 1-2 on the season after a win over Ohio University Chillicothe while the Big Red are 1-0 following a season-opening 84-77 win at Capital University. Like Denison, the Ravens also play at an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schools to open the season, falling 59-49 at Ohio Northern University.

The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 30th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, has amassed over 500 career victories. David Hall is in his sixth season as Miami Middletown's head coach while Sarah Lee has been Denison's head coach for three decades. Lindsay Shade is entering her fourth season as Anderson's head coach.

The Players: Wilmington has not played yet this season, but returns its top two leading scorers in McKayla Binkley and Kennedy Lewis. McKayla Binkley and her twin sister, Hannah, combined for over 21 points last year while Lewis led the team in assists per game at 4.2. Alison Schaefer led Denison with 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting in the season-opener for the Big Red while Zyah Beal chipped in 19 points. A trio of Ravens – Payton Moore, Anna Ault and Lexi Dellinger – all scored in double figures. Statistics for Miami-Middletown were not available.
