AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Wilmington College junior pitcher Grace Shell has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The Sidney, Ohio, native hurled 31 innings and and boasted a 4-1 record and a 0.68 ERA on the Fightin' Quakers' spring trip to Florida last week. Shell tallied 47 strikeouts on the week and walked just five batters with three of those coming in her first start. Shell's 14-strikeout performance against SUNY Canton is the most strikeouts in a single game in program history in at least the last 20 years. In her only loss, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of SUNY Oneonta, Shell tallied 11 strikeouts and surrendered just a single unearned run.
Wilmington finished its spring trip with a 7-3 overall record. Due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Quakers' season concluded with that trip.
